A New Year, A New Start

A New Year, A New Start

Sometimes, it’s good to take a break, to step away from things you’ve been doing for a while but have lost interest in. It took an email from Postcrossing, informing me that my account was going to be set as Inactive to make me realize I’m not ready to drop the sending and receiving of postcards just yet.

In addition, February marks the beginning of InCoWriMo 2017, something I’ve thought about doing in the past. This year, though, I’ve done some reading up about it and have decided to take up the challenge of writing a letter, or card, every day for the entire month. Postcrossing fits right in to that so I’ll definitely be a little more active there.

I know it’s been a while, but I do have a couple of postcards to write about. Both of these cards arrived a while back, October or November.

The first of the two is this one, from Dreams, in Hong Kong. At first I wasn’t all that impressed, really, but then I read the back.

That’s right… she painted the picture on the front of the card and had cards made! That makes it pretty special. I really do enjoy what other Postcrossers do. The next card is equally great.

I love the use of stamps to create a one of a kind postcard. And she’s an avid knitter! It doesn’t get much better than that.

Finally, what do you do with all the postcards you receive? To date, I’ve received 354 postcards and they filled one box, taking up space on my book case. As much as I love receiving them, I don’t really look at them again so I decided to donate them to my grandson’s school. According to my daughter, they were very well received. It’s definitely something to keep in mind for the future.

A Quiet Week

It’s been a quiet Postcrossing week. Only one card arrived and there are no more of my cards travelling. I’ll have to remedy that this weekend.

This week’s card came from Jick, in Hong Kong.

Never Complain About Slow

Never Complain About Slow

I should know, right? The instant you say things are slow, things happen. It’s been a couple of weeks and I have postcards to write about… a stack of postcards! I think I’ll split them into two posts just so that today’s post isn’t too photo-intensive.

Let’s get started. I’m posting these in the order they were received. First up, New Zealand. Christchurch, to be precise. Christchurch is of particular interest to me as I have an aunt and cousins living there. Apart from the earthquakes, it looks like a lovely place to live!

My next card is somewhat special, at least in my opinion. It arrived from Germany in a handmade envelope. As you know, I love the handmade cards and envelopes so this one became an instant fave.

The envelope…

I’ll leave you with one last card today. This one harks from Finland and I’m always hoping to see another one of these. The Inge Look cards are such fun to receive. Each one has a story of its own and this one is no different. They’re such happy cards!

A Slow Week

A Slow Week

There’s nothing wrong with a slow week, especially when it’s the first week of the new year. I did request five more names and will be addressing and mailing those five cards this weekend. By Monday, cards will be winging their way to Colorado (USA), Japan, Netherlands, Germany and Hong Kong. Today comes the fun part of trying to match card to recipient.

As far as postcards arriving, one showed up this week. This one is another first, my first card from Singapore. I love orchids and, so, this card is a visual treat. Thank you, Janet!

I would love to be able to grow orchids in my house. Unfortunately, our little suite is too dark and, in the winter, too chilly. I will simply have to enjoy them in their postcard form, I suppose.

P.S. I know this is a second post today. In reality, it isn’t the second post written today, just the second post published today. All of the update posts were written in a single day and scheduled for publication on subsequent days. Now that it’s Saturday, I have the time to sit down and write another post, even though this morning saw the last of the pre-written posts posted. I hope you don’t mind.

Saturday Already!

Saturday Already!

This week seems to have flown by. It hasn’t been a very busy week, as far as Postcrossing goes, but there has been a little bit of activity. Two cards arrived this week. The first card arrived from Hong Kong.

Very cute!

The second card arrived from the Netherlands. I like that I’m finally getting some cards from Holland. Piet very graciously sent me a vintage card featuring people in traditional costume, something I’d requested in my profile. I love it and immediately tagged it as a fave.

The costumes in the picture hail from the fishing village of Urk, which was situated on a small island in the Ijsselmeer. The land around the village has since been reclaimed and Urk is no longer on the water. The scene also shows the fishing fleet heading out to the North Sea. This is definitely a card with a story.

In addition to the two cards arriving, three cards went out this week. Well, two have already gone out; the third one will be going into the mail later today.

This card is winging its way to Finland. We do live in a beautiful city, don’t we? The next card is making its way to Germany. And finally, this last card will be going to Poland.

A Busy Week

It’s been a busy Postcrossing week! A card went out to Hong Kong (forgot to take a picture of it) and another postcard has made it’s way to our mailbox.

This one came from Iowa where, apparently, they have a lot of corn.

The back of the card:

And a close-up (as best I could) of the stamps. I love the stamps on this one. Renee put in her profile that she likes to use vintage stamps and lots of them. It certainly does make for an interesting card!

There are a couple of cards ready to mail out as well. This map card will be going to Belarus.

The hockey card will be going to a young man in Poland. He specifically asked US and Canadian Postcrossers for anything relating to the NHL (National Hockey League). I’m more than happy to oblige that one!

In addition to all of the above, two more cards have reached their destinations. The card to Texas arrived and a card to Taiwan was registered as well.

Told you, it’s been a busy Postcrossing week!
